Amid criticism from Congress that the NDA government is overlooking the contribution of Jawaharlal Nehru, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh described the country’s first prime minister as one of the “tallest world leaders of his time”.

Wrapping up the official commemoration of Nehru’s 125th birth anniversary, Singh felt that Nehru should not be analysed through a political prism as he took upon himself the responsibility of steering the newborn country to a path of democracy and development by promoting infrastructure, agriculture, industry and education.

“There are many issues on which we have our differences with Nehru. We have differences over his policies, but we cannot doubt his intention to work for the welfare of people and nation building,” Singh, a veteran BJP leader, said.
