Meanwhile, repolling in the remaining 60 booths in the state went off peacefully.

The police had to open fire at Gothara in the Sikrai Assembly segment of Dausa when a violent mob attempted to capture the booth, thus interrupting the poll process. Polling was suspended in the afternoon, and the state election commission recommended a third round of repoll. Dausa is having an electoral battle among three Meena candidates and a Gurjar. While the official candidates of the BJP  and the Congress — Ram Kishore Meena and Laxman Meena — are rather low-key, the real contest is between independents — Dr Kirori Lal Meena and Gurjar leader from Jammu and Kashmir, Qamar Rabbani Chechi.

War of words

After the violent clashes between the Gurjars and the Meenas on May 7 and the death of a Meena voter in CISF firing, the war of words has been hotting up in the constituency. The two Independent candidates are holding their community mahapanchayats to mobilise support.
