Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President D K Shivakumar informed that Gandhi Bharat programmes scheduled on Friday have been canceled in wake of demise of former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Shivakumar told reporters here on Thursday night that they were proceeding towards New Delhi to pay respects to Dr Singh. Other programmes to be organized as per Gandhi Bharat will be made known later, he said.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said late on Thursday night that the 'Jai Bapu - Jai Bhim - Jai Samvidhan' rally planned for Friday had been cancelled after the demise of former prime minister Manmohan Singh.
Speaking to reporters at the Circuit House in Belagavi, Shivakumar said: "We have lost a great leader today who strengthened all sections of the society. The programme planned for tomorrow stands cancelled. Tomorrow is a government holiday and the government has declared a 7-day mourning across the state."
However, the deputy chief minister noted that a mourning programme would be held at the same venue where the Congress had planned to celebrate the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi taking over as the Congress president in 1924.
Shivakumar noted that Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal had already to left to Delhi on a special aircraft.
Noting that most senior Congress leaders would go to Delhi, the deputy chief minister said: "We are speaking to Indigo and are trying to prepone the flight planned for 5 pm tomorrow. Since it's night already, it's tough to organise anything immediately."

Addressing the media, the former defence minister in the Singh-led UPA government highlighted the transformative reforms introduced during his tenure, particularly the Food Security Act, which became a landmark legislation benefiting crores of the middle class in India.
The Congress Working Committee member described Sonia Gandhi's decision to nominate Manmohan Singh as prime minister a "second surprise," following her unexpected choice to decline the role herself, despite pressure from opposition parties, including the Left, to assume the position.
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday said he will remember Manmohan Singh as the only prime minister who made sincere efforts to uplift the "marginalised, including minorities and backward classes".

Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare on Friday condoled the death of former prime minister Manmohan Singh and said he always prioritised the welfare of the country and society.
“Those who are born have to die, but some leave memories and their legacy behind. Singh gave a new direction to the country’s economy,” Hazare told PTI in his native village in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district.
Hazare recalled his agitation against corruption during Singh’s tenure in the early 2010s. The former PM invited him for talks and took quick decisions, said the octogenarian activist.

Pakistan's former foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri recalled fond memories of his association with the late Indian prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who died in Delhi on Thursday night.
In an interview with PTI here on Friday, Kasuri said that Dr Singh will be remembered in history as a man who devoted himself to the improvement of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Kasuri, 83, who served as Pakistan’s foreign minister from November 2002 to November 2007, credited Singh for the creation of a congenial atmosphere in the entire SAARC region.
He said it was best exemplified by Singh's statement that “he looked forward to the day when it would be possible to have breakfast in Amritsar, lunch in Lahore and dinner in Kabul”.
