The RSS on Sunday rushed to clarify that it did not support the lynching of Mohammad Akhlaq in Dadri over rumours about him consuming beef.
It made the move after an article in its weekly mouthpiece stoked a major controversy by saying the Vedas order killing of those who slaughter cows. It also said the Dadri lynching was a “natural reaction” to the “sin” of cow slaughter.
The RSS also declared that weeklies— “Panchajanya and Organiser”—are not its mouthpieces, distancing itself from the controversial article.
“The RSS has clearly stated about Dadri violence that a thorough inquiry should be conducted and the guilty should be punished. ‘Panchajanya/Organiser’ are not mouth pieces of the RSS. An official office bearer only speaks on behalf of RSS. The RSS never supported any incident of violence,” the RSS posted on its official twitter account, attributing the statement to its senior leader Vaidya.
Interestingly, “Panchajanya” editor Hitesh Shankar also distanced himself from the controversial article, maintaining the views expressed in the article by its author were personal. “We don’t support any violent incident. The writer has expressed his independent views. These are not editorial views. I don't recollect any write up justifying Aqlakh's killing.
The Dadri incident should be probed," a news agency quoted Shankar as saying. It may be a coincidence but websites of the RSS, “Organiser” and “Panchajanya” also remained off the Internet due to some technical reasons.
