A day after Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde publicly regretted the saffron-terror remark, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) continues to insist on an apology, while the BJP top brass considers the matter a closed chapter.

Not satisfied with the minister’s one-page retraction of his earlier comment, RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav tweeted: “Shinde’s Jaipur comments were derogatory and defamatory. He merely regretted. He should have apologised. Also should have condemned Pakistani terrorists....”

At the Congress chintan shivir held in Jaipur last month, Shinde had charged the BJP and the RSS of providing terror training at their camps which had triggered a war of words between the two parties.

When asked about the RSS insisting on an apology, BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Shinde’s clarification was “virtually like an apology” and we have “accepted the apology”.
