The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Centre and Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav on a plea seeking his removal on the ground of his alleged involvement in the Vyapam scam.

A bench of Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justices Shiva Kirti Singh and Amitava Roy also sought response from the Union government on the PIL seeking a direction for framing guidelines on removal of governors if they are found to be involved in corrupt practices and other incapacities during their stints.

The court admitted the public interest letigation (PIL) filed by activist Sanjay Shukla for hearing on a plea by senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Vivek Tankha.

The court had earlier agreed to hear another petition seeking removal of Yadav from the post of governor for his alleged involvement in the scam and to facilitate “impartial and prompt investigation”.

The petition had claimed “a person cannot be allowed to hold the post of Governor of a state amidst such serious allegations of involvement in a multi-crore admission and recruitment scam”.
