A public interest litigation seeking a probe by a special investigation team into the controversial VVIP chopper deal was on Friday dismissed by the Supreme Court, which said that it was not the proper forum to address such an issue.

The PIL filed by advocate M L Sharma had also demanded quashing of the Rs 3,600-crore contract. A bench of Justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai told the petitioner: “We are not inclined to entertain the petition. If you have something to show, go to the CBI. We are not investigators. It is not the proper forum.”

Sharma, arguing for his petition, relied upon certain documents, claiming to have procured from Italian investigators, to plead for interference by the court into the matter. He also complained that the Centre was not taking up the probe in right earnest.

The bench, however, remained unimpressed saying that it was not within the court's jurisdiction to consider his plea.
