Under the new scheme, habitations with population over 2,000 will be provided banking facility through business correspondents and hand-held computers. About 73,000 habitations would be covered by March 2012 and 10 crore people would be benefited by gaining access to deposit, credit, and micro-insurance and micro-pension facilities.

Emphasising the need for more subsidy for fertiliser and food sectors, the party said the government should continue its policy of giving higher remunerative prices for farm produce.

The party urged the Centre to formulate a national manufacturing policy to attract more foreign direct investment and boost industrialisation. The policy was required as it would  raise the share of manufacturing in the economy and absorb a large number of young people who will join the workforce.
