In his first reactions on the latest serial blasts on Wednesday, Bal Thackeray said that “citizens should not depend on the state government and should stay alert to protect themselves.”

Speaking in a local channel, he also criticised both the Central and State governments stating that Mumbai has been attacked again, yet Ajmal Kasab and Afzal Guru continue to live a safe life in jails.

His son and Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray lambasted Congress for alleged failure and inaction against terrorism, saying instead of just saluting the resilient spirit of Mumbaikars, the Government should see to it that innocent people don't suffer.

"The (Congress) rulers salute Mumbai's spirit and then easily forget everything. Why should innocent people suffer? Who will take responsibility (of the attack)? They (Government) should be taken to task," Uddhav said.
