Several hutments gutted in separate fire mishaps in Mumbai

Two major fires were reported from separate parts of the metropolis today in which several hutments were gutted, fire officials said.

No casualties or injuries were reported in the mishaps so far.

A blaze erupted today at the Ambedkar Nagar slum near the Backbay depot in Cuffe Parade area of south Mumbai gutting many shanties, they said.

Sixteen fire engines, eight water tankers and some ambulances have been rushed to the spot, he said.

Senior officials of the fire department also reached the spot, he said, adding that the cause of the fire was not yet known.

In another mishap, several hutments were gutted in a fire that broke out in an area near Wadala RTO, where some construction work was underway, officials said.

The blaze occurred at around 10 AM gutting several shanties of the labourers engaged in construction work near suburban Wadala, they said.

About eight fire tenders, six water tankers and ambulances were rushed to the spot, an official said.

Rescue operation was underway and the officials were trying to ascertain the cause of blaze, he added.
