New Delhi: Congress on Sunday once again targeted the Modi government over the SHANTI Bill, alleging that it was "bulldozed" in Parliament not only for “Trump but also for Adani". It also accused the ruling BJP of "desecrating the groundbreaking law" MGNREGA, claiming it has "overturned two decades of progress" by "desecrating" MGNREGA in Parliament.

The Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Bill and the Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) VB-G RAM G Bill were passed in Lok Sabha last week amid Opposition protest.

Quoting a media report on Adani Group planning to enter the nuclear energy sector after the passage of the Bill that allows private participation in nuclear power generation, Congress General Secretary (Communication) Jairam Ramesh said the Bill was "bulldozed" in Parliament.

"SHANTI was bulldozed through in Parliament not only for TRUMP (The Reactor Use Management Programme) but also for ADANI (Accelerated Damaging Adhiniyam for Nuclear India)," he posted on 'X'.

On VB-G RAM G Bill replacing MGNREGA, he said in a separate post sharing 'MGREGA Sameeksha', an anthology of 145 field studies conducted on MGNREGA between 2008 and 2012 that includes on by then CAG, "two decades of progress have been overturned without consultation and by sidestepping all Parliamentary convention and procedure."

He said the anthology now makes required reading now, amid the "desecration of this groundbreaking law in Parliament over the last week",

Congress has been critical of the hasty passage of the Bill and have announced a protest against VB-G RAM G Bill.

On Saturday, Ramesh said the government had the SHANTI Bill "bulldozed" only to help Prime Minister Narendra Modi restore “SHANTI” with his “once good friend”.

He referred to the National Defence Authorisation Act for the US fiscal year 2026 signed by Donald Trump and had said, "Now we know for sure why the Prime Minister bulldozed the SHANTI Bill...that, among other things, did away with key provisions of the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010, that had been passed unanimously by Parliament.”

Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi had also attacked the government for bulldozing the MGNREGA and vowed to protest against the “black law” put in its place.
