The Government of India on Saturday announced the Prime Minister’s Shram Awards for the year 2008 to be awarded to 52 workers employed in the Departmental Undertakings and Public Sector Undertakings of the Central and State governments and Private Sector Units employing 500 or more workers.
In recognition of his distinguished performances, innovative abilities, outstanding contribution in the field of productivity and exhibition of exceptional courage and presence of mind the award was given to Nagaraja.
A recommendation by the BEL management for the Shram Ratna award to Nagaraja reads that he has been innovative and has an urge for learning. He had undergone training at ESEC Company, Singapore on die bonder with his own initiation, effort and expenditure.
He had earlier won the Shram Bhushan award in 2005 and the Shram Shri award in 1995.
Being very regular and punctual to work, he had put in extra hours without taking any monetary benefit and worked in night shift voluntarily whenever there was exigency, to meet local and export market requirements on time, said the recommendations.
Nagaraja had also not availed of any leave from November 28, 2005, to April 16, 2008, and had surrendered all his casual leave for this period.
He had twice won the suggestion award for the highest savings to the tune of Rs 15.14 crores.
He later donated all the award money amounting to Rs 60,000 for the mentally retarded children of Kidwai Cancer hospital.
