Six persons of a family were killed and five injured today when the Sampark Kranti Express rammed into their jeep near here. The mishap occurred at 11.30 AM as the speeding Delhi-bound train rammed into the jeep which was crossing the tracks at Bengali colony, killing six persons on the spot and leaving five injured, Rampur SSP Sadhna Goswami said.
The injured have been admitted to a private hospital in Rudrapur.It was not a proper crossing but villagers used it as one, the SSP said. The deceased are said to be members of the family of one Jeet Singh from Matkhera village, who were returning from a wedding party at Sitarganj in Udhamsingh Nagar district.
The train coming from Kathgodam in Nainital district was going at such speed that it took the locomotive some time to come to a halt. The train resumed its journey after 30 minutes.
