Biju Radhakrishnan, one of the prime accused in the solar panel fraud case, and his mother, Rajammal, were on Thursday found guilty by a court in Kollam of murdering his first wife Reshmi. The Kollam district principal sessions court will pronounce the quantum of punishment on Friday.

Reshmi was found dead at her house in Kottarakkara, Kollam, on February 4, 2006. According to prosecution, Biju had forced Reshmi to consume alcohol and later strangled her to death. The prosecution said Biju murdered Reshmi to live with Sarita S Nair, the other accused in the solar panel fraud case.

In November last year, Biju and Reshmi’s 11-year-old son testified against his father. Biju was held guilty of murder, dowry harassment, destruction of evidence and harassment of witnesses. The murder was exposed during investigations into the solar panel fraud.

Biju and Sarita are facing several cases for allegedly duping investors of lakhs of rupees.
