An army soldier was killed due to sniper fire from across the Line of Control (LoC) in border district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

Reports said the soldier was killed when a sniper fired by Pakistani troops hit him in Mankote sector of Poonch along the LoC. “Heavy firing and shelling was going on in the area as Indian troops were retaliating with heavy weapons on Pakistani posts,” they said.

The deceased was identified as Sepoy Pawan Kumar of 20 Kumaon regiment.

The latest ceasefire violation by Pakistan came a day after another army man was injured along the LoC in Uri sector of north Kashmir's Baramulla district. Narendra Singh Bisht was hit by a single sniper fire on head from Pakistan side in Uri sector on Monday.
