Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday tried to breathe new life into the party, tottering after its humiliating defeat, and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of weaving a web of false dreams to wrest power.
She also urged workers to keep their ideological moorings intact as the path to revival could be long and full of challenges.
Hours later, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi spoke from the same platform and said “a tsunami of Mahila Congress” was required to install chief ministers and the prime minister of the party.
The duo was addressing a convention of the party’s women’s wing to commemorate the 70th birth anniversary of former prime minister, the late Rajiv Gandhi.
As the Congress is still recovering from its epic loss in the general election, Sonia tried to raise the spirit of the demoralised workers. She asked party workers to reach out to every village and strengthen the hands of the suppressed and rebuild the organisation.
“We will leave no stone unturned to return the Congress to its past glory even if our path is long and full of challenges. But if we work with sincerity, that day would not be far when the Congress assumes its leadership role,” she said.
