The BJP led alliance government in Assam has decided to discontinue several schemes which were introduced by the Congress government over the past 15 years.

The criteria for discontinuation is however political. Sarbananda Sonowal’s government will stop those schemes which do not fall in line with the BJP’s vision document.

This was revealed on Tuesday, the second day of the Budget Session of the state legislative Assembly, by Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“We are reviewing all the schemes with different departments like Finance, Planning and Revenue. We are in the process of ascertaining if the schemes adhere to the basic points of our vision document published before the election. The government will clear all pending dues to stakeholders of a scheme if it is discontinued in future,” Sarma said.
