SP set for major rejig

The newly anointed Samajwadi Party (SP) national president, Akhilesh Yadav, undertook a major rejig in the party organisation, revoking the suspension of his supporters and replacing loyalists of his uncle and former SP state unit president Shivpal Singh Yadav with them.

Akhilesh on Thursday revoked the suspension of nine youth leaders, who include five members of the state legislative council.

These leaders were expelled from the party by Shivpal soon after assuming charge of the state unit three months back.

Akhilesh also reinstated four presidents of the party’s frontal organisations. Shivpal had appointed his loyalists on these posts after the expulsion of Akhilesh’s supporters.

Those reinstated included Geeta Singh as president of women’s Wing, Anand Agarwal as chief of the trade wing and Pradeep Tewari as president of Yuvjan Sabha. Apart from this, he also effected a major rejig in the district units of the party and replaced chiefs of about a dozen districts with his supporters.
