A special court ordered that summons be issued to West Bengal ministers Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee along with three others in relation to the Narada sting operation case.

The court ordered the accused to appear before it on November 16.

The order was issued after the court took cognizance of a complaint by the ED lodged under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in relation to the case.

Apart from Hakim and Mukherjee, cognizance was also taken against former Minister and TMC MLA Madan Mitra and former Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee. The court also took cognizance against suspended IPS officer SMH Mirza.

While the court directed that summons be issued to Hakim, Mukherjee and Mitra through the West Bengal Assembly speaker, it should be served directly to Chatterjee and Mirza to their addresses.

Hakim, Mukherjee, Mitra and Chatterjee were arrested by the CBI this May in the Narada case and were later granted bail by the Calcutta High Court following an intense legal battle.

Several TMC leaders including ministers were purportedly seen taking bribes in the footage of the Narada sting operation case, which surfaced ahead of the 2016 Assembly elections in West Bengal. The sting operation was conducted in 2014.
