The 'spirit of Mumbai' once again came to the fore with people helping each other with open arms as the city faced 29/8, its second-worst deluge.

People were seen stranded at various places — in roads, suburban stations, bus stops and footpaths. People were seen helping those in need even when they were up to their necks in water.

WhatsApp groups were flooded with messages about details of people and organisations offering a helping hand.

Temples, mosques, churches and gurudwaras offered food and shelter to many. Ganpati mandals, too, extended help to the stranded people by offering them water and snacks.

Government helplines were busy throughout the day with calls from those in need.

The prime minister assured the Centre's help to the Maharashtra government in mitigating the situation.
