Stir forces AMU closure

The decision to close the varsity indefinitely was taken at a meeting of AMU vice-chancellor P K Abdul Aziz, deans of faculties, senior teachers and principals of various varsity-affiliated colleges.

Aziz told reporters at Aligarh late on Friday evening that the decision to close the varsity had been taken to prevent “outside elements” from fomenting trouble inside the campus by taking advantage of the agitation.

He said the students would have to vacate the hostels within 48 hours. But they could leave their luggage in the hostel room.
