The Supreme Court on Friday got four new judges.
Justices M R Shah, Hemant Gupta, R Subhash Reddy and Ajay Rastogi were administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi as the top court judges.
The swearing in took place in CJI's court amid the presence of other judges, lawyers and family members of newly appointed judges.
All the four judges would be a part of separate benches during the court proceedings.
The Union government on Thursday issued notifications, as the President accepted the recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium for the appointment of Justices Shah, Gupta, Reddy and Rastogi as the top court judges.
With the fresh appointments, the number of judges in the top court is raised to 28 as against the sanctioned strength of 31.
On October 29, the names of the chief justice of Patna High Court, Shah, chief justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court, Gupta, chief justice of Gujarat High Court, Reddy and chief justice of Tripura High Court, Rastogi were cleared by the Collegium, comprising CJI and four senior-most judges, for elevation.
