Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj on Saturday endorsed Narendra Modi’s candidature for prime ministership.

Arriving in Vadodara for the party's campaign, Swaraj, who is herself seen as a contender
for prime minister’s post in the party commented that Modi is the right candidate.

“There is no doubt that he is a capable candidate for that post. He enjoys the support of people and is an able administrator,” said Swaraj at Vadodara airport.

A beleaguered Congress which is facing dissension over the candidate selection, flayed the BJP for Sushma’s comment. “There is intense bickering in the party over power and this is a way of diverting the issue. Leave aside becoming the prime minister, he will lose the Gujarat elections,” commented senior Congress leader Rajiv Shukla.

Meanwhile, Modi kicked off his second round of campaigning in the Saurashtra area. After visiting the Somnath temple, Modi addressed half a dozen rallies across the region targeting the Congress yet again. “The way a 12-year-old boy snatched away the mandate from a Congress candidate in Visavadar I am sure the same way the people will ensure that the Congress bites the dust in the state,” said Modi.
