A lady Muslim teacher was reportedly "forced" to resign from her job after she refused to take off her 'hijab' (head cover) as directed by the school management in the state capital.

The teacher, who taught at a private school, charged that the school management took objection to her wearing the head cover while taking classes, saying that some parents had questioned it.

"I was told by the management not to wear the head cover before the children and their parents... I was told that I could wear it, when I was elsewhere and was offered to live in that portion of the school, which was not frequented by the students," she said.

The teacher said that she expressed her inability to live there as another family already lived there. "I offered to live there with some other lady teacher, but the management refused," she said.

She said that the management asked her to resign. "I was forced to resign," the teacher said.

The school management, however, dismissed the allegations and termed them as "lies."

The teacher was found to have given physical punishment to two students of the school. "She resigned when she was asked not to give corporal punishment to the students," said a school official here on Tuesday.
