At an anti-terrorism function here, Ansari pointed out that terrorism is not of recent origin. "It is also important to remember that those advocating extremist, fundamentalist and terrorist causes constitute a tiny minority," he said. Observing that terror strikes are mainly aimed at destabilising the economy, Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said the recent attacks point to such a game plan of terrorists.
"Jaipur blasts targeting the tourism industry, attacks on Indian Institutes of Science, Bangalore, and the Mumbai attack points to the larger game plan of the terrorists - which is to destabilise the economy," he said. Given the competitiveness among economies in the world, India's foreign investment prospects may be affected as growing terrorism would impact economic growth, he said.
Citing the example of Kashmir, Azad said, "The terrorism activities have led to destruction, deprivation and wrecked the socio-economic situation, marred the educational, health and communication sectors and played havoc with the tourism sector, which was the main economy of the region. "As it happens in all militancy affected areas, the common man is the real sufferer," he added.
