Hyderabad: Rachakonda police on Tuesday arrested Putta Gurumurthy in the sensational Meerpet murder case in which the former jawan is accused of killing his wife, Putta Venkata Madhavi, cutting the dead body into pieces, cooking the parts and disposing them off.

Rachakonda police commissioner, G Sudheer Babu on Tuesday said that acting on technical evidence and a detailed investigation, Meerpet Police arrested Gurumurthy for the crime.

The case, registered on January 18 initially began as a missing person’s report filed by the victim’s mother. Madhavi, a 35-year-old housewife, had reportedly left her home after a quarrel with her husband on January 16, 2025. However, CCTV footage from their residence revealed that Madhavi never exited the house after January 15, raising suspicion.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime, detailing the gruesome sequence of events. On the morning of January 16, following an argument, Gurumurthy fatally assaulted his wife. In an attempt to cover up the murder, he dismembered her body, boiled the remains, and disposed of them in the toilet and trash bin. The accused meticulously cleaned the scene to eliminate evidence.

Based on Gurumurthy’s confession, the case was altered from a missing person’s investigation into a murder case under Sections 103(1), 238, and 85 of the BNS Act. The police seized several items used in the crime, including a stove, knife, roller, phenyl bottle, and other household items.

“The police were astonished by the method used by the accused Gurumurthy in the sensational Meerapet murder case,” said Sudheer Babu.

On January 15, Gurumurthy and his wife, Venkata Madhavi, reached their home. at 10:41 PM from their relatives' place, as identified by the police through CCTV footage. On January 16, at 8 AM, an argument broke out. between the husband and wife. During this time, Gurumurthy violently smashed Madhavi's head against the wall, killing her. He then contemplated how to dispose of the body. He believed that if there was no physical evidence of the murder, he could escape the case. As part of this plan, he set about making the corpse disappear.

From 10 AM to 6 PM, the police found that Gurumurthy had cut the body into pieces. He then boiled these pieces in water using a water heater. and afterwards, burnt the boiled pieces on the stove. He then ground the pieces into powder. After removing all traces from the house, he brought the children back home. When the children asked about their mother, he pacified them by saying she had gone somewhere.

On January 16, Gurumurthy, along with his mother-in-law, filed a complaint with the Meerpet police stating that Madhavi was missing. The commissioner of police said that they were shocked by the details. emerged from their investigation. He mentioned that Gurumurthy showed no remorse for brutally killing his wife.
