New Delhi: Amid an intensive narrative war, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday used a NITI Aayog meeting to subtly hint at Congress’ criticism of the BJP dispensation’s handling of Pakistan by referring to Indira Gandhi’s leadership during Bangladesh war. He also took credit for the ‘X-Ray of Telangana’ becoming a “catalytic influence” for a national Caste Census.
Not only this, the Telangana CM took a leaf from the playbook of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and announced that the state government “stands ready” to support the Centre to execute a Caste Census, as it has “successfully completed this ambitious and transparent exercise”. Rahul has also called the exercise an ‘X-Ray’ of the country.
Reddy’s remarks in his nearly 6,700-word speech tabled at the meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog comes at a time when thethe Congress is seeking to put the BJP-led Centre on the mat over the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor and the subsequent ceasefire announcement. It has also been claiming that its pressure on the Centre led to the announcement on Caste Census.
Reddy’s remarks also came a day after Rahul told party spokespersons that they should not shy away from taking credit for the announcement on Caste Census and that they should be aggressive against the BJP in the narrative war.
At the outset, Reddy reiterated “unwavering” support to the government and military engaged in ongoing Operation Sindoor, which he explained as a “critical and determined” step in the ongoing war against terrorism and then recalled the “resolute leadership” of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who led the country into the “momentous victory” in 1971.
“Her courageous decisions not only led to the creation of Bangladesh but also underscored India’s strength and determination in the face of formidable international challenges. Her legacy of unwavering leadership and clarity of purpose must continue to inspire our national resolve against terrorism, particularly that which is sponsored and sustained by Pakistan,” he said.
Soon after the ceasefire was announced amid US President Donald Trump claiming he mediated it, the Congress questioned the decision and has been juxtaposing Indira’s stand with that of the Modi government’s decision.
On the Caste Census, Reddy said the Telangana survey served as an “X-Ray of Telangana”, providing a high-resolution snapshot of the state’s socio-economic realities.
“It is a matter of pride that our Assembly’s resolution has inspired a similar initiative at the national level, with the Central Government deciding to conduct a nationwide caste census,” he said, adding it was ready to share their methodology, experience, and institutional learnings.
“We are proud that our State’s proactive approach has contributed to shaping this transformative national moment. We remain committed to partnering with the Centre to build a more inclusive, data-informed, and just future for all Indians,” he added.
