The politics of constructing memorial for late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray is fast snowballing into a major controversy in Mumbai.

The grandson of Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar, Anand Raj, on Friday snubbed the demand made by Sena workers and suggested that the memorial should be built on Kohinoor Mills in central Mumbai where Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray once had a massive financial stake.

Soon after the cremation of Bal Thackeray, MNS corporator Sandeep Deshpande in the Sena-ruled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) demanded that late Thackeray’s memorial be built upon a vacant piece of land at India United Mill, a National Textile Corporation (NTC) mills, popularly known as Indu Mills, located in the vicinity of Shivaji Park where the Sena chief was cremated last Sunday.

There were other suggestions also; a Congress corporator suggested renaming Dadar Railway Station after Thackeray while some suggested that Bandra-Worli Sea Link, named after Rajiv Gandhi, be renamed after Thackeray.
