While refusing to make any commitment on providing additional rice to Karnataka, Union Food and Consumers Affairs Minister K V Thomas on Wednesday asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to submit a detailed proposal about its food grain requirement.

When the chief minister met Thomas here, seeking additional rice for the state, the Union minister reportedly asked him to submit a detailed proposal to the Centre, mentioning the details of requirement of rice and expenditure incurred by the public exchequer if the state procured it from the open market.

While refusing to make any commitment on providing rice, Thomas reportedly informed the chief minister that the proposal will be submitted to the Union Cabinet to take a final decision.  The chief minister said if the Centre failed to provide rice at Rs 5.65 per kg, the state will examine paying Rs 19 per kg to the Food Corporation of India.
