The Mumbai police tracked down a man, suspected to have threatened billionaire businessman and Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family, in Bihar and arrested him.
The man had threatened to blow up Antilia, the iconic Mumbai residence of the Ambani family.
The operation was carried out by the Mumbai police, in coordination with their Bihar counterparts. The suspect was identified as Rajesh Kumar Mishra, a resident of Darbhanga.
“A team of Mumbai Police has detained a person from a block in Darbhanga in Bihar, at midnight with the help of Bihar police,” an official of the Mumbai police said on Thursday.
The team is on the way back to Mumbai along with the suspect.
On Wednesday, the suspect called the landline of Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai, threatening to blow up the hospital. He also issued threats to kill Ambani, his wife Neeta and their sons, and blow up their south Mumbai residence, Antilia.
This is the second such incident in the last few months—a similar death threat to the Ambanis was made in August this year. It was traced to a jeweller, Vishnu Vidhu Bhaumik, who was then arrested from Borivali.
Last year in February, a Mahindra Scorpio with 20-odd blasting gelatin sticks and a threat note was found near Antilia on Carmichael Road in Mumbai. A few days later, the owner of the SUV, Thane-based businessman Mansukh Hiran was also found dead.
