The Union ministry of road transport and highways is set to exempt MPs, MLAs, Central and state government vehicles, funeral vehicles, posts and telegraphs, gallantry award winners from paying toll on national highways.

In the new toll policy announced early this year, these vehicles were removed from the exempted category while vehicles of the Chief Justice of India and judges of the Supreme Court and high courts were included.

Upset with this, the netas raised the issue in Parliament and sought restoration of the old policy. “The ministry has now buckled,” a senior ministry official said.
