The deaths in communal clashes in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district Sunday rose to 14, administration officials said.

A television journalist was among those killed and more than 34 people were injured in the clashes that erupted Saturday after a mahapanchayat at an inter college in Nangla Mandaud, police said.

A high alert was sounded across the state and the army and paramilitary forces were deployed in the area, 500 km from the state capital.

As many as 28 companies of security forces, including Rapid Action Force and Provincial Armed Constabulary, were also rushed to the violence-hit areas.
