At a time when the Congress is pouncing on every chance to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi, its senior leader and former Union minister Salman Khurshid has struck a discordant note, saying it was too early to review the shortcomings of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

He has also suggested that the government should be given at least six months to a year's time to perform.

“It's too early to review the shortfalls of the government, which got the people's mandate. It should be given six months to a year to perform,” a news agency quoted Khurshid as saying in Uttar Pradesh's Farukhabad on Saturday night.

His remark comes three days after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, addressing party workers on the eve of Jawaharlal Nehru's 125th birth anniversary, described Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as a mere “photo opportunity”, alleging that the foundation of social harmony had been weakened with the spreading of the “poison” of communalism in the country.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Saturday had accused Modi of “cheating” the people on the black money issue, saying that the NDA government was flip-flopping on it despite the BJP, in the run-up to Lok Sabha elections, promising to bring back black money stashed abroad.
