Trade associations upset

Rajasthan is witnessing protests from various trader associations but the state government claims that the administration is ready to adopt GST smoothly.

Objecting to the imposition of 5% GST on textile, traders in the state have called for an indefinite bandh. According to the Rajasthan Cloth Traders Association (RCTA), around 4 lakh shops are observing the strike.

Suresh Saini, officer-bearer of RCTA, said, "Levying 5% GST on clothes and sarees is completely unjustified. There was no tax on saris and textiles (unstitched cloth) in the state, but now the government has imposed 5% tax.  Our demand is whatever tax the government wants to impose, let it be imposed at the manufacturing point.”

Marble traders of the state have also called for a state-wide indefinite shutdown from July 1 to protest against 28% GST. Similarly, the Rajasthan Fireworks Dealers and Manufacturers Association have also joined the protest. The association has threatened a state-wide shutdown of their units on June 30 pressing for their demands.
