Rao quit his post on Friday expressing sadness over personal attacks on him by rebel leaders in the wake of party's electoral defeat.

Expressing solidarity with Rao, Medak MP M Vijayasanthi, in a bid to pressurise him to reconsider his decision, on Saturday resigned as the party Secretary General and from the political affairs committee.

Senior party leader and former minister Nayini Narasimha Reddy on Saturday met Rao at his place and requested him to reconsider the decision.

However, it is learnt that Rao remained firm on his stand.
Party activists from Warangal and other places descended on the Telangana Bhavan here and launched a hunger-strike demanding Rao to withdraw his resignation and lead the party.

In Sircilla in Karimnagar district, from where Rao's son K T Rama Rao is an MLA, TRS activists took to the streets demanding the party chief continues to lead the movement for Telangana statehood.

The general body of the TRS is holding an emergency meeting here this afternoon to deliberate upon the whole issue and chalk out a future course of action.

Senior party leaders like E Rajender, T Harish Rao and others have been engaged in informal discussions on the fallout of Rao's resignation.
