Two militants, policemen killed in encounter

The militants were killed in the encounter near Ratarwan village under Narot Jaimal Singh police station area, about 50 kms from here, Punjab DGP P S Gill told reporters in Chandigarh. The gun battle also left two policemen dead, he said. The DGP said post-encounter search operations had been launched in certain villages in the border belt of Gurdaspur.

He said, "A couple of days back a breach had occurred in the border and an attempt of infiltration was made following which BSF had retaliated. "We had apprehensions that some crossing had taken place and, therefore, police at Gurdaspur was put on high alert," he said, adding, search operations were conducted at border villages and last night two militants were spotted.

Police had seized the area after a couple informed them that two armed men had come to their house late on Friday night and asked them the way to the main road, police sources said. Among others places, the search operation was launched in Narot, Bamial sector and Dina Nagar area besides forest and other regions adjacent to Ravi river.
