The Indian Hotels Company Ltd has expressed “disappointment” over a London High Court ruling that a victim of the 26/11 terror attacks in the iconic Hotel Taj Mahal Palace could fight his compensation case against the hotel on foreign soil.
A British court recently heard the case filed by 33-year old Englishman, William Pike, claiming compensations from the hotel as he was left paralysed trying to escape its premises during the Nov 26, 2008 terror attacks and is confined to a wheelchair as a result.
Pike wanted the case to be heard in the UK, while the Taj Mahal Palace argued the case to be tried in India since the attacks took place here.
“The acceptance of jurisdiction by the English court was made without detail consideration of the merits of the claim. It was purely a procedural decision,” said the IHC, part of the Tata groups, which owns the hotel that was target of the terrorist attack.
