Unaccounted money seized in Tamil Nadu has touched Rs 20 crore, the Election Commission has said, adding it received two lakh complaints on alleged Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations.

The Commission said it received 2,04,216 complaints as on Tuesday and filed 1,127 FIRs for violating MCC.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said the Commission received Rs 20.24 crore and seized more than Rs 16 lakh on Tuesday alone.

Since the MCC was imposed, the Commission also seized lakhs worth of gift articles and liquor bottles.

The EC said cameras are installed at nearly 38,000 points in the state to check MCC violations, while 1500 personnel have been drafted in across the state to check poll violations.

The CEO said the cash confiscated so far have been deposited in the treasury.
