The prisoner, Abad, gave the policemen the slip yesterday while being ferried along with 39 other undertrials from Saharanpur to Muzaffarnagar district jail, they said.
A case was registered today against the nine police personnel, including a sub-inspector, for alleged negligence of duty and all of them have been placed under suspension, the officials said.
A hunt has been launched to nab Abad, who is wanted in more than a dozen criminal cases.
