Banking heavily on an increase in usage and an improvement in average revenue per user, Uninor expects that its revenue will increase by 109 per cent from Rs 76 crore in the second quarter of 2010.
"The company's revenue growth is expected to cross 100 per cent from Q2 to Q3 with a subscriber base growth of 79 per cent in the same period," Uninor Executive Vice-President Corporate Affairs Rajiv Bawa said.
Uninor, in which Telenor has a 67.25 per cent stake and the remaining equity belongs to real estate major Unitech, is one of the new operators that got a licence in January, 2008. Uninor's ambitious projections come even as some other players that got licences at the same time have approached the government to surrender their spectrum and exit the sector.
With about 14 operators jostling for space and tariffs hitting rock bottom, the new service providers were finding it difficult to make a profit from their business. In addition to enhancing its market share, the company expects to increase its subscriber base by over 79 per cent.
It expects to add around 7 million subscribers in the third quarter, up from 3.9 million in the second quarter, Telenor had said during its analyst meet earlier this week in Oslo.
Uninor, which launched its GSM mobile service in the country in December, 2009, has added 10 million subscribers within nine months of starting operations.
The company added 2.2 million subscribers in August. Uninor is betting on its dynamic tariff plan, which gives a discount of over 60 per cent on calls, depending on the time and location, to get more subscribers.
Uninor was getting more primary SIM use -- which implies that a customer's main SIM is Uninor in a phone with two or three SIM cards -- especially from Calcutta, West Bengal, Mumbai, Maharashtra and Gujarat, he added. Uninor, which has a pan-India licence for offering telecom services, is commercially present in 13 circles.
