Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the first Union Budget of the new Modi government on July 5.

The first meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, decided to recommend to President Ram Nath Kovind to convene the Parliament session from June 17 to July 26 – 30 sittings spread across 40 days.

The newly-elected Lok Sabha members will take oath on June 17-18, which will be followed by the election of the Speaker on June 19, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

On June 20, President Kovind will outline the new government's agenda in his address to the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha assembled together in the Central Hall of Parliament.

The interim budget for the year 2019-20 was presented by then Finance Minister Piyush Goyal on February 1, 2019.

It is for the first time in at least 15 years that the new Lok Sabha is beginning its tenure with the Budget Session.

Earlier, the first session of a newly-elected Lok Sabha had witnessed the administering of oath for members, the election of the Speaker, President's address to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha and Motion of Thanks to the President.
