The Uttar Pradesh Assembly session was off to a stormy start on Monday, with the Opposition disrupting the governor’s address to the joint session of the two Houses. The Opposition members, armed with posters, banners and placards, were up on their feet as soon as Governor Ram Naik started his speech, and began shouting anti-government slogans. Naik, however, continued speaking amid the ruckus.

The SP, the BSP and the Congress members trooped into the Well and threw paper balls at the governor. The marshals, who had made a protective wall around Naik, were seen trying to dodge the attack.

The posters and banners slammed the Yogi Adityanath government for its failure on the law and order front. “We will continue to attack the government on this issue,” SP leader Ram Gobind Chaudhary said outside the House.

A visibly annoyed Naik decried the behaviour of the Opposition and said the entire state was watching them. The House was later adjourned for the day.
