Uttar Pradesh Highlights: PM opens Purvanchal Expressway, says previous govts reduced eastern UP to poverty, mafia rulePrime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the 341-km Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh after landing on the highway airstrip in an IAF C-130 Hercules plane. The 3.2-km airstrip has been constructed on the expressway to facilitate the emergency landing of fighter aircraft. From the airstrip venue, the prime minister will witness an air show by different aircraft.

"I initiated a lot of projects for UP. Poor were given pucca houses, toilets were ensure in their houses so that women don't need to step out to relieve themselves, that every house should have electricity - a lot of such things were necessary to be taken up here

Law and order has collapsed in UP: Samajwadi Party leader

Will change back names of districts, says Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has said that when his party comes to power, he would change back the names of various districts.

"Even before the paint on the new name dries up, we will be back and will revert to the original name," he said at a press conference here on Monday.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday had suggested that Azamgarh, which is Akhilesh Yadav's parliamentary constituency, could be changed to Aryamgarh.
