A senior prison official in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district, about 300 km from here, has been accused of raping a foreign national, who had been lodged in the district jail for the past few months.
The victim, who was a national of Uzbedkistan, has in an application to the local court, said that the deputy jailer of Maharajganj district jail, Dhruv Narain Gupta, had also demanded money for her release.
The victim alleged that her family had paid a portion of the demanded money to the official.
“The money was deposited into the bank account of the official”, the victim said in her application submitted in the court of additional chief judicial magistrate.
The jailor had demanded Rs 84 thousand from the victim to facilitate her release, sources said.
The victim said that since she did not have the money, she contacted her family back home and asked them to arrange the same.
