After collecting evidences related to the deadly fidayeen attack on a strategic army installation in Uri on September 18, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has left for New Delhi.
“The NIA team, probing the deadly, attack which left 18 soldiers dead and 19 others injured, left for New Delhi on Monday after collecting evidences and recording the statements,” a source told DH.
“During its one-week investigations in Uri, the NIA team could not collect any substantive clue, they are working on various angles. Hopefully, in the coming weeks the case would be cracked,” he said.
The central probe agency, which was led by two IGP-level officers, quizzed several porters and electricians working at the army’s 12 Brigade headquarters in connection with the terror attack, sources said and added they were quizzed amid suspicion that a camp insider may have offered reconnaissance to the fidayeen militants who had attacked the camp.
A senior police officer said the NIA team took along all the recoveries, which include four AK-47 rifles, two Global Positioning Systems, one wireless set, food pouches and other items. “Samples have already been sent for forensic examination,” he said, adding, “Blood and other samples have also been collected from the gunfight site.”
