Bareilly: A 65-year-old jeweller was killed in Bareilly's Nawabganj town after he was thrown off his motorcycle when a stray bull rammed into it, the police said on Tuesday.
Brajpal Gangwar sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed during treatment.
The incident occurred near Maharaj Lawn on Bijoriya Road when Gangwar, an eminent local businessman from Gangwar Colony, was on his way to work.
"A stray bull suddenly charged at his bike, throwing him off and causing him to lose consciousness. Despite being taken to the hospital right away, he could not be saved," Nawabganj Circle Officer Gaurav Yadav said.
Meanwhile, the incident has reignited public outrage over the increasing stray cattle problem in the region.
Nawabganj falls under Bareilly, the home district of Uttar Pradesh's Animal Husbandry Minister Dharmpal Singh.
Former minister and ex-MLA Bhagwat Saran Gangwar questioned the government's inaction, saying, "If the Animal Husbandry Minister himself is from Bareilly, why is the issue of stray cattle still unresolved here? The administration is reportedly sending false data to the government, while farmers are forced to guard their fields all night against stray animals." Local BJP MLA MP Arya expressed deep sorrow over Gangwar's death, stating, "Brajpal ji was very close to us. His sudden demise is extremely painful. May God give strength to his family."
Arya also acknowledged the growing menace of stray cattle in Nawabganj and the surrounding areas and called for urgent government action.
