Lucknow: BSP supremo Mayawati on Tuesday hit back at the Congress and its leader Udit Raj over the latter’s reported remarks targeting her. She said that the grand old party would never be able to win over the Dalits even as her nephew and heir apparent Akash Anand warned of a countrywide agitation if Udit Raj was not arrested.
‘’Congress may organise events like Jai Bheem, Jai Mandal or Jai Samvidhan but the dalits will never trust it,’’ Mayawati said in a series of posts on her ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle.
She accused the Congress of ‘humiliating’ Dalit icon B R Ambedkar and said that the grand old party could never take up the issues of the Dalit community. ‘’Dalits will not be swayed by Congress’ events,’’ she added.
Mayawati said that the Dalits were now ‘wiser’ and ‘alert’. ‘’Some opportunistic and selfish dalit community members try to mislead the community to please their political masters but they will not succeed,’’ she said.
Mayawati’s nephew and BSP national co-convenor Akash Anand also lambasted Udit Raj, a two-time BJP MP, over his remarks on the BSP supremo and said that Raj had nothing to do with the Dalits and was only interested in becoming MP or MLA.
He demanded that Raj be booked and arrested and warned that the BSP would launch an agitation if the police failed to arrest him within 24 hours.
Udit Raj had, on Monday, said that Mayawati had ‘strangled’ the social welfare movements’ concerning the Dalits and Muslims. He also reportedly made an objectionable remark on Mayawati.
