Lucknow: The second standard student, who was found dead in his school hostel in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district a few months back and was thought to have been ‘sacrificed’ by the manager of the school for the ‘success’ of the Institution, had in fact been killed by one of his seniors for ‘holidays’.

The police had earlier arrested the manager of the school Dinesh Baghel and four others on charges of ‘sacrificing’ the child as part of ‘’black magic’’ intended to bring success to the private school at Rasgawan in the district.

The investigations, however, later revealed that the child was strangled to death by an eighth-standard student, who wanted ‘holidays’ in the school.

According to the charge sheet filed by the police in the court a few days back, the accused was addicted to mobiles and wanted ‘holidays’ in the school. ‘’He had read somewhere that the schools are closed for several days in the event of the death of a student,’’ said a police official in Hathras.

The accused strangled the child with a towel at night and thereafter went back to his place to sleep. He threw the towel in the bushes behind the school building, the police said in the charge sheet.

The police said that the accused was taken into custody and sent to a juvenile home.

The manager and four others, who were earlier arrested in connection with the killing, said that they had admitted to killing the student fearing that they would be tortured by the police. All of them were granted bail by a district court. They were, however, charged with trying to destroy evidence.

The parents of the deceased, however, claimed that the police had falsely implicated the eighth-standard student as they wanted to ‘shield’ the manager of the school and others.
