Lucknow: A newlywed couple hailing from Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district, has gone missing while on honeymoon in Sikkim, according to the police sources.

According to the sources, the couple, identified as Kaushalendra Singh and Ankita, who got married on May 5 this year, had gone to Sikkim on honeymoon on May 24.

The family members said that the couple went missing on May 29 while returning to Gangtok from a tourist spot.

Kaushalendra’s father Sher Bahadur Singh, a resident of Rahatekar village in the district, who rushed to Sikkim to ascertain the couple’s whereabouts, said that he stayed there for 13 days and took part in the search operations launched by the local administration without any success.

He said that the local police informed him that the vehicle carrying the couple had fallen into a deep gorge and that they might have been swept away by the strong currents in Teesta river. Some other tourists who were also in the same vehicle were also missing, he added.

Singh who has since returned home, said that the local police had launched a search operation to trace Kaushalendra and Ankita but so there was no success. The police have ruled out the possibility of foul play in the incident
