The Union Home Ministry has red-flagged an External Affairs Ministry proposal to grant the visa-on-arrival facility to Bangladeshi nationals and visa-free entry to citizens under the age of 18 and over the age of 65.

The External Affairs Ministry had mooted these proposals for discussion during Sushma Swaraj’s three-day visit to the neighbouring country beginning June 25.

Sources in the Home Ministry said they have communicated their objection to the proposals. In January 2013, the then home minister Sushilkumar Shinde and his Bangladeshi counterpart Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir had signed an agreement on granting visa-on-arrival, but had not been implemented.
